You might want to check around town to see if you have any local leagues. I imagine every state is different on the laws, but I win money playing for free.

I play in a league at a local bar. It is free to play and there are prizes. Since it’s a league format, two days a week there are four tournaments (two each night), where the winner gets a $25 gift card (Visa cards — like cash) and 2nd and 3rd get food prizes.

They add up points for the top 25 players each night. At the end of the month, the top 60 players from the points standings play in a monthly tournament, where the prize is $125 gift card. If you win one of the nightly tournaments or get 1-2-3 in the monthly, your name goes on a “winner’s list.” At the end of every 6 months, there is a winner’s tourmanent and there are lots of prizes.

So far in the last year playing in this free league, I have won $100 in cards and about $200 worth of free food. A friend of mine has won over $300 in cards so far, plus free food.

No one is going to get rich playing in this league, but it is a good way to improve your skills and I have gone to some local casinos and won decent money in cash games and gone a long way in some big tournaments. I think most of my skill comes from playing in the league.

It is great entertainment and no cost, unless you buy drinks. I like to patronize the business for putting on the league, so I usually buy a couple of beers a week, but I don’t have to. Some guys just come and play and never buy anything.

Don’t expect to win a lot without putting some of your money an the table.

Most sites have freerolls where you can play for free and if you advance you win a ticket to another tounament where there is a cash prize involved.

There are several ways to start playing online poker for free and win real money. The easiest way is through poker source. They offere a couple sites where they will provide you with a free bank roll to start. If you are of age and meet the country requirements listed. Typically you will have to earn a certain number of player points or play a set number of raked hands to be able to cash the money out but once you do it’s yours to do with as you please. I used their site to get started for real money. I have played all low stakes poker and turned my original free 100 into over $4000. Thats not a boat load of money but for free I can’t complain. Many poker sites will also run freerolls that will award 50 dollars or a small amount of real cash. They may also award a seat to another tourney with a bigger prize pool. All sites offer them. The prizes and frequency will vary.

Either way, these methods are a great way to get started and learn the game. There is a huge difference between playing for play chips and for cash even at the low limits. You will learn a lot more.

There are many sites that have daily freerolls and I have money at several sites from winning freerolls where I have never deposited any of my own cash ever such as… Cakepoker, CarbonPoker, Wingows, Jungle, PokerStars, BetUS, Ultimate Bet, Full Tilt, and many more and all of these sites and many others allow US residents to play for real cash. I play at probably 20 or more sites off and on and every one of them has at least one or more freeroll tourneys per day, most have between 3 and ten freerolls per day and these freerolls are for real cash winnings and do not require you to make a real cash deposit.
