Yes, We run the Northwest Arkansas Poker Player Alliance and we have games up to 90 people. It’s just a $25 ticket in Arkansas and we have officers play at our games. Call the Missouri State Police number and ask them.
The Police are pretty lax about this stuff (as long as no rake is being taken :-))
Technically, yes, it is illegal. however, things like that and office pools are almost never charged. You would have to have some high stakes for the po-lees to be interested in it.
Poker is an incredibly popular game. In any given evening there are probably tens of thousands of card games going on across America.
The main thing to consider is that the stakes are low, no rake or ‘house’ money is collected, and that it really is just you and your friends.
If the stakes get too high (say $5/$10 NL or $500+ tournament), it attracts attention. If you take a rake or buy in fee, you are definately on the wrong side of the law. And if you let strangers into the game, you are heading in the wrong direction, especially if you are charging some kind of entry fee or rake.
But if it is just a low stakes bit of fun with friends, no one is going to arrest anyone.
It’s technically illegal just about anywhere in the US. However, unless you’re playing in your front yard where any passerby can see, having a crowd of dozens attend or making a lot of noise so the cops stop by due to a complaint, the chance of anyone taking notice are pretty remote.
